With a beautiful December snowfall outside, the Croix Chordsmen and Vallee de Croix Choruses presented a fabulous holiday show. Just as we do every year, we invited an area youth group to share the stage with us. This year's show featured the Now & Then Singers, a group from Lakeville North High School. This select ensemble specializes in vocal jazz and madrigal literature. This energetic group demonstrated amazing harmony with fun renditions of holiday classics. And, once again, Grand Design brought chills and tears to everyone with their performance of Toyland. It's always a fabulous show, so don't miss next year's show!
Singing and performing a cappella, four-part harmony music, barbershop style in Vallee de Croix is a pleasure you deserve! Studies have linked singing with a positive quality of life. Singing lowers heart rate, blood pressure and stress. Singing releases endorphins into your system and makes you feel energized and uplifted. And most importantly, sharing the joy of singing with others will enrich your life far beyond the notes and music.
As part of Sweet Adelines' International Global Open House Month, our chorus invites women of all ages, shapes and sizes, or vocation to visit us at rehearsal and discover what you have been missing! On January 9, 16, 23 and 30, rehearsals are open to the public from 7:00 to 9:30 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Stillwater. Physical warm-ups begin at 6:50 but are optional to members and guests. If this sounds like something you would like to try, call or email Laurie, Membership Coordinator, at 651-439-7102 or lsusaj@usfamily.net. Treat yourself to something special this year!
Each year, the Vallee de Croix joins with 20 other choruses throughout the Midwest and into Canada for competition. For many singers this is the most important and exciting time of the chorus calendar. The chorus brings in locally and nationally renown coaches to prepare two songs - one ballad and one uptune - for contest. Contest judges give detailed feedback on performances, which can be used as a learning tool for individuals and the chorus. It's a fun time to travel, perform and learn. The first place chorus qualifies for the International competition, where thousands of women from around the world gather in such locations as Hawaii and Nashville to sing and compete together.
