Vallee de Croix is proud to be an active supporter of Young Women In Harmony (YWIH), a program developed by Sweet Adelines International. Young Women In Harmony teaches emerging voices the skills, joy and rewards of performing and singing four-part harmony, barbershop style. It's goal is to pique the interest of young performers in barbershop harmony and encourage them to continue singing barbershop into adulthood. To see how show choir and barbershop harmony can change your life, watch this video from CBS's Sunday Morning show!
Vallee de Croix has been involved with students in many ways. Each year, we feature a group of students in our holiday show, from traditional high school choirs to barbershop quartets. Vallee de Croix also financially supports youth quartets and chorus members to attend the "Buckeye Harmony Camp" in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout the year, we invite YWIH quartets to appear in our various performances. In 2004, in "American Idol" fashion, VdC included a talent show for area youth in our fall show.
For three years, Vallee de Croix has worked with two local men's choruses - Indianhead and Croix Chordsmen Choruses - to sponsor a Youth in Harmony festival. The event educates young men and women throughout the region, teaching singers the joy of performing this uniquely American art form. Besides learning the techniques of good vocal production, students are taught choreography and to bring energy and emotion to their performances. Youth in Harmony attracts over 100 students every year. Students love the festival and look forward to returning every year!
